Chairman’s Blog

Firstly, thank you Aaron Musgrove for building this wonderful new website. I am sure the website will grow and develop over time so please let us have your thoughts on it.

I must also thank Mick Pugh for the countless hours he spent developing and maintaining our first website. There are many things that happen to make a great club and often we take them for granted – the development of the website is one of those things.

Due to circumstances I have been unable to be involved as much as I would want over the last 18 months. But everything feels good – new bar, modernised clubhouse, outside lights, pot holes filled – to name a few. Like websites these didn’t just happen but required much planning (re-planning), accounting for, obtaining quotes, meeting suppliers paying the bills and sheer hard work and dedication. Thank you to everyone who helped. Our focus is now on cricket (we are a cricket club) and we have some great new training equipment with the slip cradle and roll-on net. My top priority is to attract youngsters to the club and provide them with conditions needed for them to develop as our teams of tomorrow.

Cricket to me has always been a way of life. Watching my dad play and pretend “test” matches with my brothers or the other kids at the club or in our back garden are some of my earliest memories. I cherish the memories and friendships I have made through cricket over the last 40 years and more. Over the last 18 months June, Nicola, Rebecca and I have all found the love and support from our families and friends so powerful. So many of you have been there for us. It reminds me of some lines in The House at Pooh Corner by A A Milne

“Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. "Pooh!" he whispered.

"Yes, Piglet?"

"Nothing," said Piglet, taking Pooh's paw. "I just wanted to be sure of you.”

Back to the cricket – we have had a great start to the season. All teams are firing and I hear selection is a difficult but welcome problem with more people available than there are places. I have watched some great games and great performances. The sun has shone for most of May – long may it continue.
