Match Report Newtown 2nds v Madeley 2nds

This was to be the biggest match of the season for the seconds, travelling Away to Newtown with the winner being crowned Champions.

Newtown won the toss and elected to field.

Things didn't start off to well as opener Tom Mumford (0) was caught after nine balls, (6-1). Top batsmen Chris Hodson joined Allan Anson. Chris was knocking the ball around nicely, scoring two's against a very difficult bowling attack of Danny Foulkes and Craig Davies. Allan Anson (1) went caught and bowled by Craig Davies (20-2). Alex Dillon (16) was Chris's next partner and added a further 34 runs to the total, when Dai Brown took a very low catch in the slips (which even surprised himself) disposing of Alex Dillon (54-3).

Runs were few and far between as Newtown kept on Foulkes and Davies, with new batsman Matt Stuart (11) having to defend the ball well against the two quickies. Spinner Dave Wilkinson was brought on, and it didn't take long for him to bowl Matt Stuart (69-4).
Skipper (Speedo) Steve Maden had a good partnership with Chris Hodson adding 21 more runs before Chris Hodson (24) was caught by Craig Davies off of Dave Wilkinson (90-5).

Luckily, Madeley had a fairly strong lower batting order, with Callum Hodson looking very confident knocking the ball around for 4's and 6's. Callum parted company with Steve Maden (12) when he was also caught (102-6). Charlie Rudge (1) wasn't in his best of forms, after facing only six balls was bowled by Sam Morris (140-7). Unfortunately, Callum Hodson (38 in 24 balls) went LBW to Ryan Blaney (142-8).

This was not going to be enough runs for Newown to chase, but Wonderboy Ben James knocked a very impressive 23 not out, along with Aaron Musgrove 10 not out. With Newtown bowling 41 extras this gave Madeley a total after their 40 overs of 177-8.

Newtown openers of Ricky Davies (16) and Danny Foulkes (19) went hard into the Madeley bowlers of Aaron Musgrove and Ben James putting on 34, when a beaut of a ball from Aaron Musgrove bowled Danny Foulkes (34-1). Spinners were now brought into the attack, with Chris Hodson and Lol Woodhall.

It didn't take long for Chris Hodson to catch Craig Davies (2) for Lol's first wicket (45-2). There was a major collapse by Newtowns batting, Ricky Davies (16) caught with an exceptional catch by Charlie Rudge for Chris Hodson first wicket of the innings (45-3). Dangerman Richard Smout (0) lasted just four balls when Chris Hodson had him LBW (47-4).

Sam Morris (2) and Paul Kruger (6) both went bowled by Lol Woodhall (47-6).The only resistance came from Dave Wilkinson (34) who kept the batting and pushed them forward to 63, before parting company with Matt Humphreys (0) who was caught in the slips by Allan Anson for Lol's fourth wicket (63-7).

Callum Hodson replaced Chris Hodson, and had what can only be described as an amazing 1.3 overs. He bowled Dave Wilkinson (24), Ryan Blayney (0) and Dai Brown (0). Iwan Smout (1) was the not out batsman. Final Total 82 all out.

This was by far the best display by the seconds this season with everyone in top notch form.

Man of the Match : Callum Hodson 38 runs from 24 balls and bowling figures of 1.3 - 0 - 0 - 3
